HOW DO I CHANGE MY PASSWORD?
Once you’ve logged in to the platform, locate your name on the top toolbar and then select My Profile from the drop-down arrow. Scroll down to the Password Information section to enter your Current Password, New Password, and Confirm Password, and then select Update Profile.
HOW DO I CUSTOMIZE MY DESKTOP?
Once logged in to the platform and on the Home page, you can determine what, if anything, you would like to appear on your Home page desktop by selecting the desired Courses, Projects, Watchlist, Calendar, Live Sessions, Forum, and Whiteboard icons from the bottom toolbar, and dragging them up to their preferred location. Once placed, a widget can be moved by clicking and dragging it, and can be resized by clicking on it and then expanding or contracting one of its corners. Note that the Live Sessions and Whiteboard widgets cannot be added to the dashboard. To delete a widget, simply click on the “x” that appears in the upper-right corner above the widget upon rollover.
HOW CAN I MAKE THE TOOLBAR DISAPPEAR AND APPEAR?
You can make the toolbar disappear from the Home page by moving the cursor to the left of the Home icon on the toolbar and then clicking on the Unpin Menu thumbtack. To make the toolbar reappear, you should move the cursor to the bottom of the screen and click on the Pin Menu thumbtack.
HOW DO I NAVIGATE THROUGH THE PLATFORM?
You can click on the customized desktop widgets or the toolbar icons to access different elements of the digital platform – Home, Courses, Projects, Watchlist, Calendar, Live Sessions, Forum, and Whiteboard. Note that there are additional links on the top of the browser window to access both content and functionality – YOUR NAME (for My Profile and Logout), ABOUT (for Support, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Use), and SEARCH. Chats can be accessed via the blue band in the lower-right corner of the browser window.
HOW DO I NAVIGATE THROUGH A COURSE?
There are two ways to navigate through a course: Module mode and Timeline mode. In Module mode, click on any blue module box to reveal the contents of that module – typically involving VIDEO, EXERCISE, PROBLEM, DEMONSTRATIONS, DISCUSSION, SUMMARY, OFFICE HOURS, and REVIEW. Clicking on any one of these elements will take you to that element in the course. Note that you can choose to see an expanded or condensed view by clicking on the blue module box. In Timeline mode, a chronological visualization appears at the bottom of the browser window, showing progress through a course. Click on an element in the timeline to move forward or backward.
I’M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE SITE. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
First, make sure you’re using the latest version of one of the major browsers supporting the digital platform. World Science Scholars supports Chrome (preferred), Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer. If you are, try logging out of your World Science Scholars account and clearing your browser’s cookies and cache before logging back in. If that doesn’t work, send an email to scholars@worldsciencefestival.com.
IS ANY SPECIAL SOFTWARE REQUIRED?
Please make sure you have the latest version of Adobe® Flash® installed. We utilize some widgets that may require additional features, such as LaTeX for math equations.
CAN I ACCESS THE PLATFORM USING A MOBILE DEVICE?
The platform has been optimized for mobile and tablets. However, the Whiteboard requires a laptop or desktop computer to enjoy full functionality. Additionally, a strong internet connection is highly recommended for the best experience viewing videos or participating in live sessions.
